How are you connected to lupus and/or related autoimmune diseases?
My daughter was diagnosed with lupus during her senior year in college. She is an extremely remarkable young woman, who has "connected" all those who love and respect her to this disease.

What inspired you to serve on the board of directors?
The amazing work this organization does for lupus patients and their loved ones is my inspiration. I am honored to serve alongside these very talented board members. I consider it a gift to be given an opportunity to share whatever talents, insights or skills I may have to offer to such a great organization.

What do you hope to accomplish and contribute as a board member for Lupus Link Minnesota?
The ultimate accomplishment is to discover the cause and cure to completely alleviate/eradicate this disease and other autoimmune diseases. With that said, as a board member, I shall work to carry out Lupus Link Minnesota's mission: to advance knowledge, motivate people and provide resources to improve the lives of Minnesotans and beyond. My hope is that I will do this successfully, so all Minnesotans know about Lupus Link Minnesota and its mission. And with that knowledge, we will be in a position to help an innumerable amount of people. How fantastic will that be?

Let's hear your best pitch: Why should someone support Lupus Link Minnesota?
Lupus Link Minnesota serves all Minnesotans in the unified goal to find much-needed answers to autoimmune diseases’ baffling questions. It combines scientific research with hands-on, compassionate, resources for lupus and autoimmune disease patients and their loved ones. .. party in the back.

Tell us about your family.
My husband of 30 years is Scott Johnson. He drives truck for Breakthru Beverage. We are truly blessed with three daughters, Katie, Nickie and Laurann. Of course, you can insert any positive adjective and we will agree it pertains to any one – or all of them! Katie is married to Erik, and they live in Stillwater with their dog, Delta. Laurann married Jon on New Year's Eve, hence the very recent wedding photo! They live in Nashville, as Laurann is in her last year of school. Nickie is dating Sam, and they both thoroughly enjoy the city life of Northeast Minneapolis. We gather for weekends/holidays (and any other reason we can dream up) on Lac Courte Oreilles, in Hayward, Wisconsin!

Name a hero of yours. Why that person?
Zod (Russell) Palmer, my maternal grandfather. Forced to leave school in the eighth grade to accompany his blind brother to a school in the Twin Cities, he eventually rose to be Plant Supervisor at Andersen Windows and turned down an opportunity to be president. He was honest, fair, kind and direct. He gave generously, but quietly.

What do you like to do in your spare time?
I am not really good at having spare time! Summers are swimming (floating), boating, fishing, golfing, and enjoying family and friends at the lake. Winters are snowmobiling, skiing, traveling and lake time. All times, it is reading any book I can download on my iPad and getting together with friends for any social event they dream up!

What's one thing that would surprise us about you?
I bowled in a bowling league for 25+ years.

Any other final thoughts you wish to share?
I consider it a complete honor and privilege to serve on the Lupus Link of Minnesota Board of Directors. I look forward to meeting new people and I am very thankful for the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of so many who are impacted by lupus and related autoimmune diseases.
