By Barbara Schillo, Ph.D., Board President
Board and staff have been on a fast-paced journey these past months, working diligently to get Lupus Link Minnesota up and running. It’s been a privilege to work with such a dedicated group of individuals. “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has.” These words from Margaret Mead have never felt so real to me.
Our mission is guiding us. We are dedicated to advancing knowledge and mobilizing people and resources to improve the lives of all Minnesotans and those beyond who are affected by lupus and related autoimmune diseases. You’ll see some continuity from the prior work of the Lupus Foundation of Minnesota, including support for research grants, student fellowships, and outreach. And, as a new organization, we will be connecting, listening, and developing new and innovative approaches to reaching those impacted by lupus.
The Board of Directors of Lupus Link Minnesota is honored to be continuing the lupus cause in Minnesota and beyond. In conjunction with staff, the Board has developed a short-term strategic map, identifying our top priorities over the coming months, with the goal to plan further ahead by creating a long-term strategic vision. Four areas in particular have been identified:
- Governance and Operations: building both leadership and volunteer capacity
- Fundraising: developing a solid plan to increase and develop revenue sources
- Advance Knowledge: expanding public awareness about lupus and about Lupus Link Minnesota
- Mobilize Resources: developing strategic approaches to supporting both programs and research
Underlying all of these strategic efforts is a commitment to deepen community, audience and stakeholder connections. That means connecting with you and others in Minnesota. It starts with the launch of our new website and you’ll be seeing more pieces as the calendar rolls on.
In the meantime, there are still questions we’ll be answering and things we’ll be examining. We can’t do it alone and your involvement makes us stronger. We urge you to join us as we work toward our organization’s vision, “Awareness Today. A Cure Tomorrow.”
